Canal Alliance $12,500 The Canal is a neighborhood in affluent Marin County where the vast majority of low-income Latino families live. Canal Alliance is a comprehensive agency that supports these families with a wide range of services ranging from family services, immigration legal services, English as a Second Language courses, university prep and much more. When Canal Alliance surveyed more than 250 program participants, 73% had experienced some loss of work and income, and 51% had at least one adult in the household that had been laid off. This community has been hit very hard by work shutdowns, and in response, Canal Alliance has established a Client Support Fund to put money directly in the hands of families to help them cover urgent expenses for food, medicine, rent, and utilities. North Bay Children's Center $12,500 The Marin County Emergency Pop-Up Childcare Program supports all essential workers working or living in Marin County while classroom instruction has been suspended in our community. The program is open to public safety first responders, active disaster service workers, and all essential workers. The North Bay Children’s Center (NBCC) is providing “pop-up” childcare for 36 infants and toddlers and 24 preschoolers. They are staffing these programs with back to back double shifts from 7am to 7pm and providing breakfast, lunch and dinner. Vietnamese American Community Center of the East Bay $12,500 This low-income neighborhood is home to most Vietnamese residents and businesses. VACCEB provides a variety of support services, including access to nutritional meals, senior programs, housing assistance, immigration legal and education services, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, and employment development. The center serves not only Vietnamese but also Chinese, Russian, Latino, Afghan, and Eritrean immigrants. The center had to reposition most of its program to better support its client during the COVID-19 shelter-in-place. Instead of senior congregate meals, they now need to deliver food. The employment program is currently also assisting former clients to complete unemployment applications.
