Its blood is used to create Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL), which is the gold standard for endotoxin testing around the world. From annual population surveys, it is clear that the biomedical industry’s dependence on the horseshoe crab in North America is ecologically unsustainable. For over 100 years, the Golden Gate Park Tennis Center has been providing free or low-cost tennis programs to over 1,500 youth under the age of 18 each year.
